About / Apr 11 / CCSP graduate students placed in prestigious internships

April 19, 2011
For immediate release

13 graduate students in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UC Santa Barbara's Gevirtz School placed in prestigious internships

All thirteen graduate students in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School who were seeking internships were matched with an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program.

A one-year, full-time, pre-doctoral internship is required of all applied psychology students. Students apply nationally to clinical settings accredited by the APA and then must travel to invited interviews with teaching faculty at those settings. The internship matching program is competitive, with nearly 30% of all students not successfully matched each year.

“Despite the increasing competition nationwide for these positions, our students continue to perform well and earn spots at great sites,” says Associate Professor Steven Smith, Director of Clinical Training at the Gevirtz School. “ I continue to be impressed with their preparation, poise, and commitment to their training. I’m proud of all of them.”

The students and their internship sites are:

Christina Benki: Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology (child track), Boston, MA
Whitney Ence: Psychology Department, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC
Elisa Hernandez: Cal State University-Long Beach, long Beach, CA
Sarah Kurikose: Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA
Katie Levinger: University of New Mexico Health Science Center (early childhood), Albuquerque, NM
Ray Lin: Stanford University, Counseling Center, Stanford, CA
Lindsey Grimm: University of Maryland School Mental Health, Baltimore, MD
MiNa Park: UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience (developmental disabilities), Los Angeles, CA
Michael Rogers: University of Florida counseling center, Gainesville, FL
Elina Saeki: Cypress-Fairbanks School District, Cypress, TX
Anji Singh: Pacific Clinics (children/adolescents/family), Pasadena, CA
