Robert Koegel will be given the Honorary Alumni Award and Lynn Koegel will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for their service to the greater community and distinguished work.

The Koegel Autism Research and Training Center, overseen by Drs. Robert and Lynn Koegel, is dedicated to improving the lives and prognoses of children with autism, as well as the lives of their families. It has been recognized by the National Academy of Sciences – and ranked among the country’s top 10 such facilities – for its innovative research and teaching methods in a variety of areas, including parent education, language development, and teacher education. It offers a state-of-the-art behavioral approach to autistic children. The Koegel Autism Center is part of The Gevirtz School at UC Santa Barbara.

“Our entire Gevirtz School community celebrates this well-deserved recognition of Bob and Lynn Koegel’s important work on behalf of individuals and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders,” says Jane Close Conoley, Dean of the Gevirtz School. “Their cutting edge research, teaching, and clinical services are a credit to our School and have made significant differences in the lives of thousands of people. I am so pleased to join with the Alumni Association in citing the Drs. Koegel for outstanding work that adds to the international prestige of the entire University.”

The Honorary Alumni Award is given to a non-alumnus/alumna of UCSB. The nominee must be a friend of UCSB or its predecessor institutions (UCSBC, Santa Barbara State College, Santa Barbara State Teachers College) whose dedication and commitment has significantly enriched the substance and contributed to the reputation of UCSB as one of the nation's leading universities. The nominee must have attained significant professional or personal accomplishments and demonstrated exceptional integrity and character.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given to a graduate or former student who has successfully completed 12-quarter hours of work at UCSB or its predecessor institutions (UCSBC, Santa Barbara State College, Santa Barbara State Teachers College). The nominee must have achieved outstanding recognition in his/her field of endeavor.
