The Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at UC Santa Barbara is pleased to announce that Arlis Markel has been re-classified as Assistant Dean of the School. Previously Markel had held the position of Manager of the School, which includes the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology, the Department of Education, and the Teacher Education Program. The School has over 400 graduate students pursuing Masters, Doctorates, and Teaching Credentials while studying with over 50 full-time faculty members.
“Ms. Markel is a vital member of our leadership team,” says Dean Jane Close Conoley. “Her financial planning and strategic staff management/leadership skills are critical to the success of our academic, research, and public engagement missions.”
Markel has been employed by the Gevirtz School since November 1997. She has a M.A. in Educational Leadership and Organizations from the Gevirtz School. She started her career at UCSB as a financial analyst in Facilities Management in September 1991 and transferred to Billing & Accounts Receivable (BARC) in November 1995. Prior to that time she worked at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
