Carl Lager, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, publishes a column on active reading for math and science in the Santa Barbara Independent
Dr. Carl Lager, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, has written a column for “Getting Education: Notes from UC Santa Barbara’s The Gevirtz School” for the on-line version of the Santa Barbara Independent. The essay, entitled “Reading to Learn: Teaching Students to Become Active Readers of Mathematics and Science” addresses the need for teaching specific, often untaught, reading skills for students to succeed in math and science. The piece can be read on the Independent website.
The bi-weekly Independent column is another effort by UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School to bridge the gap between town and gown.
