Faculty and graduate students from the Gevirtz School at UC Santa Barbara present at the 2008 Society for Research on Adolescence Biennial Meeting


Faculty and graduate students from UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School took part in seven events at the 2008 Society for Research on Adolescence (SRA) Biennial Meeting in Chicago, IL, March 6-9. The scholars, researchers, and teachers discussed the latest findings on topics as diverse as AIDS/HIV education, the influence of parents and peers on aspirations for higher education, and participatory photography with refugee and immigrant young adolescents.

Established in 1984, the Society for Research on Adolescence (SRA) is a rapidly growing, dynamic society focused on the theoretical, empirical, and policy research issues of adolescence. Through its biennial meetings and publishing efforts, SRA promotes the dissemination of research on adolescents and serves as a network and forum for its members. SRA publishes both the Journal of Research on Adolescence and a biannual Newsletter.

The Mission of the Society is to: foster high quality scholarship on adolescence; encourage and foster global exchange and collaboration among adolescent researchers from diverse disciplines; foster development of scholars and leaders in and entry into the study of adolescence; provide professional development, networking opportunities, and leadership experience; support research on underrepresented groups and research that encompasses the diverse contexts of adolescent development; and, promote the effective use of research to enhance adolescent well being. SRA currently serves over 1,200 members representing 30 countries throughout the world.
