UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School laments the passing of emeritus professor Laurence Iannaccone on May 15th at the age of 87. Iannaccone, who earned his Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University, retired from UCSB’s graduate school of education in 1994. He was one of the core faculty members in a masters and doctoral program in Confluent Education – a major variant in the humanistic education genre, with roots in Gestalt – and he also taught educational administration.
“Professor Iannaccone was one of the two or three major contributors to the understanding of local and state politics of education during the second half of the 20th century,” says his colleague, Gevirtz School Professor Naftaly Glasman. “He had trained a whole generation of those who are now eminent scholars who are helping us unpack the tumultuous but absolutely necessary currently complex relationship between the ways education is governed and financed and the ways in which education is organized and led.”
