Jessica Singer Early, alumna of UC Santa Barbara's Gevirtz School, to present the lecture Stirring Up Justice: Writing and Reading to Change the World on November 1 at Antioch University

Jessica Singer Early, alumna of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, will present the lecture Stirring Up Justice: Writing and Reading to Change the World on Thursday, November 1 from 4 – 6 pm at Antioch University, 602 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Early, who is currently an assistant professor at Arizona State University (ASU), will discuss how activism begins with critical awareness, which begins with strong reading and writing habits. The lecture is based on her 2006 book of the same name published by Heinemann.

Early earned her Ph.D. in the Department of Education at the Gevirtz School in 2007. In addition to being a member of ASU’s Department of English, she is a Co-Director of the Central Arizona Writing Project. The CAWP is part of the National Writing Project network, the oldest and largest professional development project in the United States. Early is a 2006 recipient of the University of California All Campus Consortium on Research for Diversity Award for her dissertation, Literacy Sponsorship and First Generation Latino College Writers.
