The Department of Education in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at UC Santa Barbara announces a new specialization in Early Childhood Education Leadership as part of its master’s degree (M.A.) program in education. Through a combined strand of coursework in human development, organizations, and leadership, students will develop knowledge in early childhood administration, organizational concepts, finance and evaluation, child development theory, special education, and educational issues pertaining to linguistically and culturally diverse children and families.
“There is growing agreement around the state and nation that we should be investing more and more deeply in early childhood care and education,” says Dr. Michael Gerber, Chair of the Department of Education. “This new specialization responds to the great need for expanded learning and career opportunities for those interested in helping young children reach their potential.”
Full-time students can complete the specialization in one year. Interested students should submit applications for the master’s degree in the Education Department and the Child and Adolescent Development (ECAD) emphasis. Interest in the Early Childhood Education Leadership specialization should be included in the personal statement. Applications are accepted up to May 1, but priority will be given to applications received by March 15, 2008.
