Academic Coordinator, M.A. (California State University, Northridge)
Emphasis:
Biography:
I am the Coordinator of the UCSB Pre-Professional Education Program, and I also place the Science and Math Initiative students in classrooms throughout Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria. These pre-professionals gain important hands-on experience in all aspects of classroom instruction before entering a credential program.
I received a B.A. and Teaching Credential from California State University, Northridge, and completed an M.A. in Educational Administration there as well. My Professional Administrative Credential is from UCSB.
Between degree programs I taught elementary school in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. I coordinated and taught the Gifted Program for Hope School District, and went on to coordinate a state program for three counties called the California Teacher Education Center. In 1987, I left public education to work for six years with Jostens Learning on developing the first computer assisted instruction curriculum delivered on CD-ROM. Before coming to UCSB, I was the Director of Instructional Media and Technology for seven years at Santa Barbara County Education Office, serving 100 schools in the county. Here I was in charge of all library services, video services, TV production, and the California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP). I directed that project for 4 counties in the state. Working with the Santa Barbara Partners in Education, I founded the Computers for Families Project, which has provided free computers, internet, and teacher support for more than 5,000 families in Santa Barbara County.
From 2000 to 2003, I was the Associate Director of the federal PT3 Project at UCSB (Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to use Technology.) Working with Dr. Willis Copeland, I administrated training to assist faculty, student teachers, and cooperating teachers in learning ways to model the effective use of technology in a classroom. I currently teach two courses for students who are considering teaching as a career, ED 121 and ED 122. In addition, I coordinate the technology training and certification for all BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) teachers in Santa Barbara County.
