Patrick Faverty

Academic Coordinator, Ed.D. (University of La Verne)

Emphasis:
Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership

Research Interests:
Educational leadership; School reform; The brain & learning.

Biography:
I received my B.A. in Communications/Secondary Education from Utah State University (1971); a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and Pupil Personnel Services Credential from UCSB (1990); as well as an Ed.D. and a Professional Administrative Services Credential in Educational Leadership (Organizational Development) from the University of La Verne (1997).

I have held positions as teacher and coach in middle and high schools, counselor, principal of elementary and middle schools, superintendent in two school districts as well as serving as headmaster of a private school. I also spent two years as Senior Director, Professional Development and School Services of The Galef Institute, a member of the seminal and influential New American Schools coalition. In this position, I provided professional development to Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) in middle schools in New York, Houston, Louisville, and Los Angeles.

My research interests lie at the heart of the JDP and our concern for effective instructional leadership policy and practice in ex-urban schools. My dissertation was A causal-comparative study of the effects of the ACSA Small School District Superintendents Academy on the leadership orientation of California superintendents.
