Title: Developing a large enrollment physical science curriculum (LEPS)

Principal Investigator: Danielle Harlow

Total Project Amount: $74,082

Agency: San Diego State University Foundation

Project Dates: 10/01/2007 – 8/31/2010

Abstract:

Our development team has received funding from the NSF CCLI Program to develop a one-semester guided inquiry-based physical science curriculum for general education audiences that could be taught in either large enrollment settings (60+ students) or in small enrollment settings where hands-on laboratory experiences are impractical. The work will build on two other successful curricula, Physics and Everyday Thinking (PET) and Physical Science and Everyday Thinking (PSET). This new curriculum will focus on fundamental physical science content and will also integrate activities focused on the Nature of Science and on how people learn science by engaging students in analyzing video of children and other university students learning science. Technology will be used to engage students in inquiry and collaboration in class and online.
