Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology (CCSP)
Admission Procedure
Applications are considered for the Fall Quarter
only of each academic year. The deadline for the CCSP Program
is December 10 (postmarked). It is to the
applicant's advantage to submit application materials as early
as possible. Applicants must (1) complete the UCSB Graduate Division Application (www.graddiv.ucsb.edu), and (2) complete/submit
the CCSP supplemental materials. Our application checklist
(www.education.ucsb.edu/ccsp/checklist.html) is helpful. Please
see the checklist for details on required material and mailing
procedures.
The basic academic requirement for admission is the possession
of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
The requirements listed below are in addition
to those stipulated by the Graduate Division (outlined in
the Graduate Application) for admission to graduate status.
Concurrent with the submission of an application to the Graduate School of Education an applicant needs to submit a report of his or her performance on the Graduate Record Examination (The three core sections of the General Test are required). Arrangements to take these tests can be made through most university counseling centers. The GRE must have a test date no later than November 15, 2006 to meet the December 10 deadline to be considered for Fall 2007 admission. Admission to the program is based on a comprehensive review of all application material.

It is the applicants responsibility to make sure that all materials are received and included in her or his file by the deadline (the deadline cannot, and will not be waived under any circumstances). Students are advised to call the Student Affairs Office (805-893-2137) at least three weeks before the deadline to verify that all materials have arrived. Students are admitted to the doctoral degree program once each academic year, Fall quarter.
If an applicant's file is complete by December 10, it will be reviewed and candidates will be selected for an interview. Those selected for an interview will be notified of a date and time. The purpose of the interview is to enable the admissions committee to secure direct information concerning the applicant's professional interests, motives for choosing this degree program, and related past experiences. If it is impossible for the applicant to come for an interview because of excessive distance, a telephone interview will be arranged. Once all interviews are completed, the CCSP Department then recommends the selected applicants to Graduate Division, who sends the official notification of admittance via the GGSE Assistant Dean, Carol Dixon.
The Department faculty do not consider applications for terminal M.A. degrees. However, applications are accepted for the M.Ed. degree leading to a school psychology credential, which is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and by the National Association of School Psychologists.
