Admission Procedure
1. Complete all application materials. Applications are considered for the Fall Quarter only of each academic year. The deadline for the CCSP Program is November 15 (postmarked). It is to the applicant's advantage to submit application materials as early as possible. Applicants must (1) complete the UCSB Graduate Division Application (www.graddiv.ucsb.edu), and (2) complete/submit the CCSP supplemental materials. Our application checklist is helpful. Please see the checklist for details on required material and mailing procedures.
2. Provide evidence that you meet all requirements for admission to graduate studies at UCSB.
a. Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
b. By the time of enrollment, the applicant must meet all of the admissions requirements established by the UCSB Graduate Division (outlined in the Graduate Application).
c. IN ADDITION, the CCSP Department has supplemental application requirements.
(a) Concurrent with the submission of an application to the Graduate School of Education an applicant needs to submit a report of his or her performance on the Graduate Record Examination (The three core sections of the General Test are required). The GRE must have a test date no later than October 25, 2009 to meet the November 15 deadline to be considered for Fall 2010 admission. Arrangements to take these tests can be made through most university counseling centers.
(b) A writing sample must be submitted.
(c) The CCSP Information at a Glance Form must be submitted.
(d) The GGSE Questionnaire must be submitted.
3. Admission to the program is based on a comprehensive review of all application material.
4. Print out a copy of the application checklist for more details on required material and mailing procedures.
5. It is the applicants responsibility to make sure that all materials are received and included in her or his file by the deadline (the deadline cannot, and will not be waived under any circumstances). Students are advised to call the Student Affairs Office (805-893-2137) at least three weeks before the deadline to verify that all materials have arrived. Again, we do advise to have all materials submitted early. We are not responsible for any delays in receiving GRE scores, letters of recommendation or other required items being submitted by the firm submission date.
6. If an applicant's file is complete by November 15, it will be reviewed by the faculty and some candidates will be selected for an interview. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
7. Completed applications must include all of the following materials (if any of these materials are missing, the files will not be reviewed):
(a) 2 copies of your Statement of Purpose,
(b) 3 Letters of Recommendation,
(c) CCSP Information at a Glance Form,
(d) Official GRE scores (and TOEFL scores if you are in international applicant),
(e) 2 Official Transcripts (for each listed college/university),
(f) A Writing Sample, and
(g) the GGSE Questionnaire.
8. Those selected for an interview will be notified of a date and time. The purpose of the interview is to enable the admissions committee to secure direct information concerning the applicant's professional interests, motives for choosing this degree program, and related past experiences. If it is impossible for the applicant to come for an interview because of excessive distance, a telephone interview will be arranged. Interviews are typically held during the 3rd or of 4th week of January. If you are chosen for an interview you can expect to hear from us at least 2 weeks before the scheduled interview date. Otherwise, the end of March/early April is when you can expect to hear a final decision. Once all interviews are completed, the CCSP Department then recommends the selected applicants to Graduate Division, who sends the official notification of admittance via the GGSE Assistant Dean, Carol Dixon.
9. The Department faculty do not consider applications for terminal M.A. degrees. However, applications are accepted for the M.Ed. in Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology degree leading to a school psychology credential, which is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and by the National Association of School Psychologists. Please contact the Department for further information.
