New (7/23/2012) Student Tecnology Fee
Initially, the Student Technology Fee (STF) will provide technological enhancements to school members and guests. The STF will be assessed $2.50 per unit for the 15 units of ED or CNCSP courses taken each quarter and will be charged automatically to students’ BA/RC accounts. The fee is officially assessed during the 3rd week of each quarter; thus, students who drop a course after the third week census will still incur the per-unit charge. New (11/24/2010) Change in Enrollment Procedures for ED 191 A, B, C & W
Beginning with W11, ED 191A, B, C & W enrollment will be filtered through GOLD only, not by application process. This change has been made in order to comply with UCSB Academic Senate regulations. If you are not enrolled in these courses in GOLD for W11, please do not come to the first day of class. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

New (4/01/10) Changes to the Science and Mathematics Education Minor
Two additional courses may be used to fulfill the Area C: Disciplinary Content requirement
- PHY S 120, “Physics of CA Waves, Weather, Quakes and Fires” (4 units)
- ENV S 149, “World Agriculture, Food and Population” (4 units)
One existing course from Area C: Disciplinary Content, has been removed from that area and now may be used to fulfill the Area D: Disciplinary Practicum requirement
-ENV S 166FP, “Small-Scale Food Production,” (5 units) [Note: Students that have already planned to use ENV S 166FP for Area C may still do so]
New (3/22/10) A Word Regarding Crashing ED/CNCSP Courses
We regrettably recognize that for many of you crashing has become a necessity. Here's some information to help you along the process.
**Our instructors have the right to handle their wait lists however they wish
**Some common methods of handling wait lists are first come/first served, seniority, lottery, and priority given to students in our Minors
**Do make sure to e-mail the instructor and request that you be added to the wait list
**Instructor e-mails can be found here. If you cannot find one, inquire to: sao@education.ucsb.edu
**Do follow any other directions that the instructor asks of you
New (03/15/10) New Course — ED 140
Ed 140, Seminar and Practicum in Early Care and Education, is a new course and will be offered for the first time in S10. This is an elective for the educational studies and teacher preparation tracks of the Education & Applied Psychology minor.
New (11/4/09) Changes to the Applied Psych Track
The Applied Psych Track of the Education & Applied Psych minor has new course requirements. Students that have petitioned for the minor before and during F09 should continue to follow the 'old' requirements. Students that petition for the minor during and after W10 should follow the 'new' requirements. Click here for detailed requirements. New (11/4/09) Ed 125, Title Change
Ed 125, formerly "Social Foundations of Education," now has the more accurate title of "Equity, Democracy and Schooling in the U.S." The course contains the same content and counts in all the same capacities as before.

New (6/30/2009) Same Courses, New Names
Beginning W10, four of the courses used within the Education & Applied Psych Minor will be switched administratively from the Department of Education to the Department of Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology. For this reason each of the courses will have a new department code and number. The course content will be the same despite the change and each course will still count towards the minor as previously specified.

Ed 197 that is being offered this Summer 2009 and taught by Dr. Melissa Morgan is 'Identity & Pluralism.' New (1/13/09) The Minor in Science and Mathematics Education
The Gevirtz School will begin awarding our new Minor in Science and Mathematics Education to Spring 2009 graduates! The Minor in Science and Mathematics Education is for science, mathematics, and engineering undergraduates interested in learning and teaching others about mathematics and science. Undergraduates who enroll in the Minor in Science and Mathematics Education will observe, help design, and participate in the teaching of science or mathematics to elementary, middle, and high school students.
New (1/13/09) Change regarding Ed 191 A, B, C, D, W
Effective for W10 graduates: The Educational Studies and Teacher Preparation tracks of the Education and Applied Psychology minor will be allowed to count only one course from the Ed 191 series as elective units for the minor. Contact the GGSE Student Affairs Office with questions.
New (1/13/09) New Course
Ed 191W, Wellness, taught by Sabina White will be offered Fall 2009. This course provides internship training in wellness, including life skills (i.e. self-awareness, assertion, and communication); wellness skills (i.e. pleasure, engagement, and meaning); and peer health education skills (i.e. group facilitation and helping). Students who complete training are eligible to apply for Wellness Internships. Consent of instructor; not open to seniors. Final enrollment determined by instructor review of application first day of class. This course is an elective for the Education and Applied Psychology Minor.
New (1/7/09) New Course
Ed 127, Studying and Teaching the Holocaust, is a NEW 4 unit course. It is approved as an elective course for the Teacher Preparation Track and the Educational Studies Track.
New (9/19/08) Same class, new number!
Ed 197, "Special Topics in Education and Applied Psychology: Development of Play, Language, and Literacy in Early Childhood and Care Settings," has been changed to Ed 142. It is now officially listed as an elective for Educational Studies and Teacher Education Tracks. Students do not need to petition to have it count. This class is offered for Fall 08.
