Treatment expectancies to early intensive communication interventions in young children with autism are understudied. Twenty-two non-verbal children between the ages of 20 and 45 months received 200 hours of Pivotal Response Treatment, including a parent education component. 10-minute video probes with a parent or clinician were taken at least once every 20 hours of intervention. These probes were scored for number of utterances, number of diverse utterances, % of self-generated utterances, and number of self-generated diverse utterances. Currently, we are examining average number of hours to reach certain communication milestones. We are particularly interested in average treatment expectancies, profiles of children who respond early and late, and communication patterns at early stages of language learning.
