Red Flags

 

Social
Communication
Behavior
  • Abnormal eye contact
  • Not orienting when name is called
  • Preferring to be alone/ignoring others
  • Limited imitation (Not waving hello or bye-bye)
  • Not initiating social games (peek-a-boo)
  • Little interest in being held
  • Delay/deficits in joint attention
  • Limited pointing/gestures

  • Echolalia (repeating)
  • No babbling by 12 months
  • No single words by 16 months
  • No 2-word spontaneous phrases by 24 months
  • Peculiar use of language
  • Lack of pretend play
  • Failure to attract attention to self
  • Use of early forms of communication
  • Obsession with objects, interests, or routines
  • Inappropriate or unusual toy play
  • Repetitive body movements/unusual body postures
  • Attachment to unusual objects
  • Over or under sensitivity to sensory stimuli
  • Inconsistent response to sound
  • Unusual visual interests
  • Insensitive to pain, cold, or heat
  • Hypersensitive to taste
