Professional Referrals

Professionals, particularly pediatricians, are crucial in the early identification and referral of children with symptoms of autism. We have a listing of red flags which may indicate the presence of autism.

To refer a child in Santa Barbara county:

Obtain parent consent to refer.

  • Call First S.T.E.P. at (805) 893-5737. Ask for Crystal Carrillo or Whitney Ence.
  • Leave family’s information and contact number and referring person’s name and contact information.

Screenings are free and are typically scheduled within 2 weeks and a feedback form is sent to the referring professional.

We also offer presentations to professional groups who work with young children.
