Message from the Founding Executive Director, Dr. Vishna A. Herrity

It has been a privilege to collaborate with the many school districts and community organizations in Santa Barbara and surrounding counties whose students, teachers, families and administrators have participated in GRC research programs.

For twelve years, the Gevirtz Research Center has worked to improve the lives of children and their families by helping children develop the competencies required to achieve educational success, prepare for meaningful and productive careers, and realize fulfilling and satisfying lives.

The cultivation of collaborative relationships and partnerships has been central to our success, as has our approach: combining theory and research to create practical solutions to educational problems through the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative school programs and out-of-school educational enrichment initiatives.

The Gevirtz Research Center has had too many supporters to name all of them here. You can, however, learn more about our collaborative partners in the individual GRC program descriptions on this website. I would like to express my gratitude for the corporate support of businesses such as Verizon; the support of private foundations such as the Whittier Family Foundation, Godric Foundation and Crawford-Idema Family Foundation; and the support of government agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Bay Watershed Education and Training Program. I also want to thank the Santa Barbara School Districts and other local and regional school districts for their continued support.

The Gevirtz School website will provide you with detailed information about our many programs, faculty collaborators, and partners. Together we have brought the university to the community and improved the lives of many thousands of students.
