Shane R. Jimerson, Ph.D
Project Director

Project LOSS explores the reactions and transitions of children and adolescents following the death of a loved one.  We engage in research activities aimed at better understanding bereavement experiences of children and teens.  Ultimately, we will design developmentally appropriate support services for children, adolescents and families.

Undergraduate research assistants are an integral component of Project LOSS.  Research assistants primary responsibilities include designing and preparing data collection forms, gathering and reviewing relevant literature, working with the grief support curriculum, and managing and analyzing the data.  In addition, attendance at scheduled project meetings will enhance research assistants understanding of issues and concerns related to grief and loss.  Research assistants work closely with graduate students and Professor Jimerson.  We are committed to providing training necessary to excel in graduate school.  In addition, you may enroll in ED199RA (upper division elective credits) to document your participation.

Junior and Senior social science majors are preferred.  It is important that students are comfortable using computers.  Prior experience with software such as Teleform, SPSS, Word, Netscape, EndNotes, are especially beneficial, however, we are willing to provide training on each of these.  In addition, strong organizational, analytic, and interpersonal skills are helpful.  No prior research experience is required.

If you are interested in joining the Project LOSS research team, please send an e-mail containing responses to the questions below to (jimerson@education.ucsb.edu at your nearest convenience.  In your e-mail, please identify your response to each of the questions by including the number and header for each.
