The Young Writers Camp Programs are designed to offer students in grades 3-9 many opportunities to explore the varied facets of writing, regardless of their skill levels. Students participate in a stimulating and non-threatening camp environment that helps create a community of writers to give optimum support and nurturing. Meanwhile, teachers build campers' confidence while providing the writing tools that inspire creative thinking.
Varied activities enable the exploration and free expression that help make the writing experience fun and rewarding. Daily journal writing and writing workshops are blended with activities in other creative arts such as drama, music, drawing and painting. Young writers engage in crafting a variety of writing forms, such as poems, autobiographical sketches, short stories and nature observations, and thus become familiar with the writing process. Each camper chooses a piece of writing or several pieces for publication in the camp anthology. During graduation on the last day of camp, campers read their piece to family and friends in attendance.
