Where can I get more information about the application process?

Read the Eligibility Criteria and Application Guidelines thoroughly. You are also encouraged to view the Application Webinar, a recorded presentation that includes an overview of the application process and answers many common questions. Simply enter the requested information at this link, and you will be directed to the webinar site. If you still have any questions or concerns, contact the UCEC via email at ucsb-famu@education.ucsb.edu or by phone at 805-893-7678.

Is it better to email application materials as I complete them or send them all at one time?

To avoid confusion, applicants should email all supplemental materials (unofficial transcript and resume) in one email. The materials should be emailed to the UC Educational Evaluation Center at ucsb-famu@education.ucsb.edu with a subject line of “Scholars Program Application from [Student’s Full Name]”

If either of the faculty members sends my Letters of Support after the deadline, will my application still be accepted and reviewed?

Faculty members are busy. Please ensure that you give them enough time to write and submit the Letters of Support prior to the deadline. Follow up with the faculty members writing your letters of support to ensure they submit them before the deadline. It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to ensure that faculty submit the letters via email to the UCEC at ucsb-famu@education.ucsb.edu prior to 11:59pm EDT on Sunday, October 28, 2012. No applications will be accepted for review after the deadline.

Can I send additional material that I think will support my application?

Only submit the information requested. No additional information will be reviewed.

Am I eligible to apply if I am graduating?

Graduating students are eligible to apply.

Do I need to articulate a fully-developed evaluation project in my Research Statement?

Students should describe their ideas for a possible evaluation project. Faculty will help you shape and develop your idea, based on your interests and training, once you are accepted in the program.

If I have computer trouble prior to the deadline, will my application be accepted after the deadline?

Applications received after 11:59pm EDT on Sunday, October 28, 2012, will not be reviewed. Plan accordingly for technology problems and other delays.

When will I know if my application was received and if there are any issues with my application materials?

The UCEC will confirm receipt of your materials as we receive them. If you do not get a confirmation from us, you should assume we did not receive your application. Because technology can fail, we encourage you to submit your application early! Your complete application must be received NO LATER THAN 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (i.e., FAMU time) on Sunday, October 28, 2012.

Application materials received after the 11:59 p.m. EDT deadline will not be accepted or forwarded to the Selection Committee for review.

What if my question is not listed among the Frequently Asked Questions?

If you still have any questions or concerns, contact the UCEC as soon as possible via email at ucsb-famu@education.ucsb.edu or by phone at 805-893- 7678. At FAMU, for additional assistance you can contact Dr. Patricia Green-Powell at patricia.greenpowell@famu.edu, Dr. Mark Howse at mark.howse@famu.edu, Dr. Charles P. Ervin, Jr. at charles.ervin@famu.edu or Dr. Endya Stewart at endya.stewart@famu.edu.
