Pre-Professional Experience
UCSB requires applicants to complete a minimum of 40 pre-professional hours. Twenty of the hours must be completed in a K-12 classroom in the United States during the regular school day, by volunteering under the supervision of a credentialed K-12 teacher, substitute teaching, or working as a K-12 instructional aide. These twenty K-12 hours are due by the application deadline. The additional twenty hours (due by July 1st) can be completed in a K-12 classroom or other educational setting, such as an after-school tutoring program or an international teaching opportunity. Any remote hours completed will count towards the additional twenty hours. Please view our Application Handbook for more information.
