Rotary Club of Santa Barbara has recognized Roosevelt Elementary School teacher Barbara Barr for her outstanding work and significant contributions to public education. Barr, who teaches sixth grade, is in her 30th year of teaching at Roosevelt. Barr is a longtime cooperating teacher for UC Santa Barbara’s Teacher Education Program (TEP), along with an in-house coordinator at Roosevelt School, and a member of TEP’s advisory board.

In 2011 UC Santa Barbara awarded Barr a Bialis Family Foundation Mentor Teacher Award. The honor meant Barr was considered among the most outstanding and committed Cooperating Teachers in the Teacher Education Program. Her excellence in mentoring new teachers remains evident in the way TEP teacher candidates grow under her guidance. Her dedication to this work shows her commitment to the profession and to future students.

Barr has also been recognized as the 2015 Santa Barbara County Distinguished Educator.

“The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara has a long history of providing support for education in our community,” said County Superintendent of Schools Susan Salcido in an official statement. Salcido’s office coordinates the recognition with the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara.
