Cameron Sublett of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School named University of California Center – Sacramento Emerging Scholar

Cameron Sublett, a Ph.D. student at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School and winner of the University of California Center – Sacramento (UCCS) Emerging Scholars Award, will present the talk “Online Learning in Higher Education” at the UCCS on August 13. Sublett received the award for Excellence in Public Policy Research pertaining to his work on online learning and student achievement, specifically at the community college level. Sublett’s research aims to inform policy makers and school administrators on policy regarding students and online learning. Understanding how online learning contributes to the success of community college students’ ability to transfer is central to Sublett’s research.

Sublett is a Ph.D. student in the research focus areas of Education Policy, Leadership and Research Methods in the Department of Education. He is also the recipient of the 2015 Graduate Scholar Award, an annual award presented to select graduate students researching education, learning, and policy.

Sublett currently teaches at the Communication Department at Santa Barbara City College in classes such as Public Speaking and Argumentation and Debate. Under his UCSB advisor, Dr. Michael Gottfried, Sublett also conducts research regarding STEM classes in high school. He also works on research with the California Dropout Research Project (CDRP).
