Abbey Fragosa, Financial Coordinator at the Gevirtz School, has been awarded a UCSB Professional Women’s Association 2023 Unsung Heroine Award. As a principal goal of the Professional Women's Association is to develop awareness of the incredible dedication and outstanding contributions of UCSB campus staff, the organization established the Unsung Hero/ine Award to recognize members of the community who consistently go above and beyond to make the campus a better place for everyone.

As Financial Coordinator for the Gevirtz School, Fragosa is responsible for processing payments/reimbursements, placing orders & financial administration support for general operating and other discretionary accounts. She has held the position since December 2021, after working elsewhere on campus.

“Abbey is such a delight to work with and creates an inclusive and positive environment for everyone,” wrote her nominator for the award. “She started in her position during a very challenging time when the campus and GGSE were in the middle of experiencing a high rate of staff turnover, and she had come into a position that had been held by the same person for 20 years. Abbey quickly caught onto her role and job duties and responsibilities, quickly establishing herself as a go to person for staff and faculty alike. She did this all with a smile, even through the challenge of learning several existing campus systems (Espresso, GL, Gateway) and a new system (Concur), and the various policies and procedures that need to be followed, while managing a high volume of transactions.”
