Dr. Alison Cerezo of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School will deliver one of the eighteen keynote lectures at the 2022 American Psychological Association (APA) Convention on Thursday, August 4 in Minneapolis, MN. Cerezo’s presentation, titled “Advancing LGBTQ+ Health Research by Centering Race, Gender, and Culture,” argues that an intersectional lens is paramount for advancing LGBTQ+ health research. Cerezo shares empirical work on stigma, discrimination and alcohol health among Black and Latina sexual minority women, including innovative methods to consider intersectional lived experience.
APA is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States, with more than 133,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students as its members. This year’s annual convention, held in Minneapolis and virtually, August 4-6, will feature 900+ in-person sessions, 70+ hours of virtual programs, and over 3,000 presenters.
Alison Cerezo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UC Santa Barbara. Cerezo is the director of the Social & Health Equity Lab at UCSB where Cerezo leads their team in carrying out community-partnered health equity research. Cerezo is also the lead strategy evaluator of the LGBTQ+ Health Disparities Project with the California Department of Public Health, a statewide initiative funded in 2021 to promote health equity among LGBTQ+ women and non-binary Californians. Dr. Cerezo earned their Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Oregon.
