WHAT IS YOUNG WRITERS CAMP?

Since 1993, SCWriP’s Young Writers Camp has offered students fun, supportive environments to explore and embrace writing. Our outstanding staff of certified classroom teachers are all graduates of SCWriP’s Invitational Summer Institute in Composition and Critical Literacy at UCSB. Students participate in stimulating learning activities that build a community of writers for optimum support and growth. Specific activities vary from year to year and from one class to another, including a broad range of genres and experiences geared to generate rich writing. This may include:

  • poems
  • autobiographical sketches
  • short stories
  • plays
  • memoirs
  • guest authors
  • walking field trips
  • much, much more

At the end of camp, families are invited to celebrate as students read their best work from their own copy of a published anthology. Our camps are best suited for students who are eager to attend and who want to write for fun.
