Dr. Shane Jimerson of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at UC Santa Barbara recently served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica. Dr. Jimerson, sponsored by the United States Embassy in Jamaica, presented a full day workshop featuring the International PREPaRE school crisis prevention and preparedness curriculum. PREPaRE has been developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) as part of NASP’s decade-long leadership in providing evidence-based resources and consultation related to school crisis prevention and response. With over 200 participants, including psychologists, counselors, teachers, administrators, and government representatives, the workshop was the first of its kind to be featured in the country of Jamaica.

Dr. Jimerson comments, “It was a tremendous experience to have an opportunity to collaborate with faculty and professionals at Northern Caribbean University in an effort to further establish prevention and plans to facilitate the well being of students throughout Jamaica.”

Dr. Jimerson continues to collaborate with colleagues and professionals to advance professional development to address student needs related to school violence, bullying, school crises, and generally promoting the social and cognitive competence of all students. Professor Jimerson is a faculty member in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology.
