A group of six faculty and staff from the Office of Planning and International Affairs, College of Education, Seoul National University (SNU) in Korea met with UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School on February 27. The SNU team is planning to build and manage an education center in cooperation with local government in Korea. They are looking for educational centers that have similar models so they can learn more about the management systems of these types of centers.
Over the course of the day-long visit the group met with Lilly Garcia to learn of Gevirtz School and UCSB STEM initiatives; with Tim Dewar to learn about the South Coast Writing Project; with Dean Jeff Milem; with Jin Sook Lee to learn about School Kids Investigating Language in Life and Society (SKILLS); Danielle Harlow to learn about the GGSE Maker Faire; and with Julie Bianchini to learn about CalTeach/Noyce. The Korean contingent also made with other UCSB units such as the Art, Design + Architecture Museum, the Research Experience & Education Facility (REEF), Early Academic Outreach Programs, Education Future Leaders, and the Research Mentorship Program & Science & Engineering Research Academy.
