The South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP) invites teachers of all grade-levels who are interested in designing digital writing projects for their students to the UC Santa Barbara campus on Tuesday, June 25-Wednesday, June 26, 2019. The Technology Institute will span 9:00am-3:00pm both days on the fourth floor of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education in Room ED 4211. Virtual participation can also be made available.
This free workshop will provide teachers (K-college, all subject areas) with strategies to apply multiple modes of literacy to create engaging digital writing lessons. SCWriP teacher-leaders will teach of an assortment of technologies to use, and spend workshop time developing writing projects tailored to individual classrooms. Ithaca College professor, Dr. Mary Lourdes Silva (SCWriP Fellow '08), will lead the institute with guest presentations by other SCWriP Fellows. This annual program has helped numerous teachers enhance both their and their students' writing experience in the classroom as well as introducing new ways of creative thinking. Many teachers also use this to count as professional development credit.
The Institute’s sponsor, the South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP), is a network of teachers dedicated to improving student writing by improving the teaching of writing. Directed by Dr. Tim Dewar, they provide professional learning, resources, and expanded roles for teachers throughout the tricounties. SCWriP is an affiliated site of the National Writing Project (NWP) and the California Writing Project (CWP), and has its central office in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education.
