Our individual and small-group sessions are ideal for students in grades 3 - 12 who would benefit from engaging in literacy activities that:

  • Nurture their enjoyment and confidence in reading and/or writing
  • Help develop their ability to comprehend and critically evaluate multimodal texts
  • Help develop their ability to express their ideas and understandings in writing and multimodal forms of communication

During your student’s first session, the Reading Clinic Director or a graduate student coordinator will administer the Critical Reading Assessment, which was developed at the Reading Clinic. The CRA provides information about different facets of the reading process (i.e., decoding, fluency/prosody, reading comprehension and metacognitive reasoning) and can be used to identify strengths as well as areas to work on. We will use results from the CRA, along with any additional information you shared, to develop an instructional plan for your student. Our instructors are undergraduates at UCSB who are trained and supervised by graduate student coordinators.

Each instructional session lasts 45 minutes. We offer sessions on Mondays and Wednesday from 3:30 - 4:15.

The cost per session is $28.00. Need-based scholarships are available.
