The application deadline for Fall 2027 admission is November 15th, 2026 (11:59PM).

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in applying to the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UCSB. The following information will guide you through the online application process. Please use this in conjunction with the Ph.D. Application Checklist, as the checklist contains additional details.

  1. Online Electronic Application: Go to the Online Electronic Application start a new application.
  2. Transcripts: Order an unofficial transcript for each institution you have attended and have attended where you completed over 12 units. Electronically upload the transcript created by your university. If applicable, redact your Social Security Number (by crossing or blacking out the numbers) before uploading. Repeat this step as needed until all transcripts are uploaded.
  3. Letters of Recommendation: Request at least three Letters of Recommendation. Letters must arrive electronically via your online application. You will be asked to supply the name, email address, and current institution or company for each recommender.
  4. Required Documents: Upload your Statement of Purpose, Personal History Statement, and Resume/CV. There are no minimum or maximum length requirements for these documents, but we recommend keeping each to 1-2 pages.
  5. Writing Sample: Upload a writing sample based on your research experience (such as research on the job, a research project, or a class paper).
  6. Applicant Form: Upload the required At a Glance applicant form.
  7. International Applicants Only: Have your TOEFL or IELTS scores electronically transmitted by the testing service to UCSB for graduate school purposes. In addition to sending the scores electronically, log back into your UCSB online application, navigate to the Application Status page, and enter your ETS registration number and test date from your official score sheet. It may take up to two weeks for UCSB to receive your scores from ETS, so please plan accordingly.
  8. Pay and Submit: Pay the non-refundable application fee ($120 for domestic applicants / $140 for international applicants). Payment can be made by credit card (Visa and MasterCard only), check, or international money order. For credit card payments, follow the directions at the end of the electronic application. For check or money order payments, use and follow the directions on the Check/Money Order Submission Form found on the last page of the electronic application.

Note: Your application will only be accessible to the faculty for review once all required application components have been received.

Admission decisions are released between February and April. Once a decision is made, you will be able to view it directly on your Application Status page.
