Dr. Miriam Eady Thompson is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she is Director of the Mind and Behavior Assessment Clinic (MBAC). She is a licensed psychologist (PSY34243) and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).

Dr. Thompson’s scholarship is focused on viewpoint diversity, free inquiry, neuropsychological assessment, and psychology graduate student training. Regarding viewpoint diversity and free inquiry, Dr. Thompson is interested in challenging mainstream perspectives and ideologies that pervade psychology research and academia by asking thought-provoking questions and offering alternative viewpoints. In terms of assessment and graduate student training, Dr. Thompson is focused on preparing students to administer standardized assessments ethically, make sound interpretations, and formulate well-informed diagnostic impressions. Dr. Thompson has taught eight different courses, spanning various topics such as pedagogy, social psychology, and personal beliefs. Currently, she teaches assessment courses and is focused on graduate student training. 

Dr. Thompson earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of Arizona and completed an APA-accredited internship at the Multidisciplinary Evaluation & Consulting Center (MDC) at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Following completion of her doctoral internship, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in childhood neurodevelopmental assessment at the Brenner Center at William James College. Thereafter, she completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at the Boston Juvenile Court Clinic (BJCC), where she completed court-ordered psychological evaluations and worked closely with social workers, probation officers, attorneys, and judges.
