Monica Scafide is a continuing lecturer and supervisor in the teacher education program at Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. She is the content supervisor for the single-subject math cohort and also supervises teacher candidates at Goleta Valley Junior High School and La Cumbre Junior High School.
Scafide teaches the Professional Issues course for the single-subject math cohort and focuses on helping teacher candidates teach math in a way that is fun and engaging. She believes that student discourse and discovery learning are keys to capturing students' mathematical interests and promotes those ideas in her classes.
Scafide earned her master's degree in education and her teaching credential in 2002 from the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. Prior to joining GGSE, Monica taught math at Dos Pueblos High School.
