Anne Hubbard, an alumna of the UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, has been appointed the superintendent of Hope Elementary School District in Santa Barbara. The district is comprised of three elementary schools with about 1,000 students: Hope Elementary School, Monte Vista School and Vieja Valley School.
Hubbard, then Anne Egan, earned her Multiple Teaching Credential from UCSB’s Teacher Education Program in 1990. She previously earned her BA from UCSB. After teaching for 20 years both in elementary (mostly 5th grade) and in middle school (mathematics) in San Jose, she returned to school and earned a masters degree in educational leadership and an administrative credential from Cal Poly. Since then she worked as an assistant principal at schools in Paso Robles and Cupertino before taking the job of principal at Washington Elementary School in Santa Barbara. That job led to her becoming superintendent/principal in the Cayucos Elementary School District in San Luis Obispo County.
In her opening letter to the Hope Elementary School District community she wrote: “We have some big challenges ahead in the district, but I am very confident we can address them successfully. The district has a well-deserved, solid reputation and that is built by the school board, principals, teachers, support staff, students, and their families. The people here are the district’s greatest resource, and the quality and dedication of people in this district make overcoming challenges much easier.
“I look forward to learning about, from, and with you during the 2016-17 school year.”
