April Regester

Alumna April Regester of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School has received the 2022 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). This Award recognizes and honors outstanding academic, humanitarian, or professional service.  There are two types of award:
1. The Campus Service Award recognizes faculty for distinguished service on our campus.  Nominees will have made exceptional contributions to achieving one or more goals of the university, while embodying the values of the university.
2. The Civic Engagement Award recognizes faculty for distinguished service to the community beyond the boundaries of the University.
Regester was presented with an award plaque and $1,000 honorarium at the Chancellor's State of the University Address on September 1.

Regester (Education, Ph.D.,’09) is currently Associate Professor and Chair, the Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership, College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has been passionately committed to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities starting when she was a volunteer in elementary schools in Goleta. Regester has been vital to UMSL’s very highly regarded SUCCEED Program, a two-year, post-secondary program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SUCCEED received the Governor’s Council on Disability Award in 2014. At UMSL, Regester teaches courses related to Behavior Management, Individual & School-wide Positive Behavior Supports, Transitions and Planning, and Cross Categorical Special Education. She is also serving on three doctoral dissertation committees and advising students obtaining an M.Ed. In Special Education.
