Gevirtz Graduate School of Education alumna Reem Alfrayan is the first Saudi woman in the history of Saudi Chambers to be appointed Assistant Secretary General, kingdom wide—this was an executive board decision representing the 28-member Chambers. Dr. Alfrayan is charged to oversee three main women’s divisions, (Chambers Affairs, Women Investments, Women Employment & the Council for Women’s Employment); in addition she is co-chairing the Women’s Committee at the Saudi Economic Organization at King Saud University.
Dr. Alfrayan has been working at the Council since 2007. Prior to leading the women sector at the Council, she worked at the Arab Open University headquarters in Kuwait, the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiques, and King Abdulaziz Medical City. She also served on the Trademark Licensing Committee at the University of California system-wide.
Dr. Alfrayan, holds a Ph.D in Leadership and Organization from UCSB’s Department of Education. Her research interests focused on the manifestation of businesswomen leaders during the establishment of Business Women Affairs Centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Her dissertation, “The Self-Efficacy of Businesswomen: Understanding Generational Cohorts of Saudi Arabian Advocates,” was nominated for the Lancaster Dissertation Award.
