Bridget Sandoval

Bridget Sandoval of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School has been chosen as the 2019-20 Peggy Fredericksen Memorial Fellowship recipient. This fund was established to honor the memory of Peggy Fredericksen, who received her B.A. in Elementary Education from UC Santa Barbara in 1951. While attending UCSB, she met her husband, Donald Fredericksen. Peggy pursued a career teaching elementary school in Santa Barbara and Long Beach before deciding to raise her family full-time. She remained engaged in numerous civic and volunteer roles, including serving on the PTA, the League of Women Voters, and Alpha Phi Sorority’s alumni association, advancing to leadership roles in each. Peggy passed away in January 2013, and this fellowship fund has been created to honor and sustain her memory and passion for K-12 education.

Sandoval is a Single Subject Teaching and Master of Education candidate in UCSB’s Teacher Education Program. She received her B.A. in English from UCSB in 2013 and worked in the private sector for 3 years before deciding to pursue a career in education. Bridget has most recently worked for the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) as a substitute teacher. She was also a member of SBUSD’s District Language Assessment Team (DLAT). As a member of the DLAT, she served as a lead examiner administering the English Language Proficiency Assessment of California (ELPAC) to all TK-12 English Learners in the district. Bridget looks forward to working closely with students as they explore the English language and the power of the written word.
