UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School professor Dorothy Chun is editor in chief (since 2000) of Language Learning & Technology (LLT), a refereed journal for second and foreign language scholars and educators.
Since 2007, LLT has ranked among the most influential Linguistics and Education journals in the Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports (now property of Clarivate Analytics). In 2017 Language Learning & Technology ranked 14th out of 181 for Linguistics journals and 47th out of 238 for all Education journals.
Language Learning & Technology is a fully-refereed, open source journal which has been published exclusively online since July 1997. Published triannually (February, June, and October), the journal seeks to disseminate research to foreign and second language educators on issues related to technology and language education. The focus of LLT is not technology per se, but rather issues related to language learning and language teaching, and how they are affected or enhanced by the use of digital technologies. LLT has an editorial board of scholars in the fields of second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning.
The LLT Journal is indexed in the Current Contents/Social and Behavioral Sciences, ISI Alerting Services, Institute for Scientific Information's (ISI) Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Linguistics Abstracts, PsycINFO, and Social Scisearch databases.
Dorothy M. Chun is a Professor in the Department of Education. She received her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in historical Germanic linguistics but transitioned to the fields of second language acquisition and applied linguistics shortly thereafter. Her passion has been researching and exploring how second languages are learned and how technology can be leveraged to enhance the learning of language and culture. Her research areas include: L2 phonology and intonation, L2 reading and vocabulary acquisition, computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and telecollaboration for intercultural learning.
