Counted separately for each of their appearances, 111 faculty members and graduate students from UC Santa Barbara, the overwhelming majority from or affiliated with the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, will take part in 57 events, panels, poster presentations, and workshops at the 2018 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in New York, NY, April 13 – April 17. The scholars, researchers, and teachers will discuss the latest findings on topics as diverse as Exploring Issues of Diversity and Underrepresentation in Engineering Education Research; Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Accountability in Schools; Preservice Teachers Focusing on Student Thinking in Math and Science Classrooms; Recent Developments in Multiple-Group, Multilevel, and Longitudinal Mixture Modeling; the Impact of Mentoring on Latinx Students in Higher Education; and Intersections of Equity, Engineering, and Literacy.

The theme of the 2018 AERA Annual Convention is “The Dreams, Possibilities, and Necessity of Public Education.” The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and, by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. AERA is the most prominent international professional organization, with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application.
