Seventy-one faculty members and graduate students from UC Santa Barbara – primarily from the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education – will take part in events, panels, poster presentations, and workshops at the 2013 American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California April 27-May 1. The scholars, researchers, and teachers will discuss the latest findings on topics as diverse as faculty collegiality, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions; opportunities to develop students’ academic language fluency; a research perspective on poverty and the dropout crisis; and, historically black colleges and universities past, present, and future. The American Educational Research Association (AERA) has also named Russell Rumberger one of its Fellows, an honor he will be awarded with on April 28.

The theme of the 2013 AERA Annual Convention is “Education and Poverty: Theory, Research, Policy and Praxis.” The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and, by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. AERA is the most prominent international professional organization, with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application. Its 25,000 members are educators; administrators; directors of research; persons working with testing or evaluation in federal, state and local agencies; counselors; evaluators; graduate students; and behavioral scientists.
