Deadline for registration for the conference is May 22
“Building Interdisciplinary Community,” the 2020 digital research symposium presented by UC Santa Barbara’s The Gevirtz School, has posted its full program for Friday, May 29 from 9 am to 2 pm. The event will provide a space for students and faculty to showcase their own work and thinking and to foster connection building within the GGSE, as well as with the larger UCSB community. Topics range from STEM and Youth to Autism, Equity, and Intervention, from Teacher Education for English Language Development to Strengthening Museum Experience Design.
To attend, one must register online by Friday, May 22 at 9 pm.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will be hosted virtually. Presentations have been organized by themes and will be co-occurring in separate Zoom rooms. Auditory notifications will be turned off in Zoom settings so as not to disturb the presenters. Zoom links will be shared with registered attendees via email.
The event will kick-off at 9 am with a keynote talk by Dr. Jeffrey Milem, Professor and Jules Zimmer Dean's Chair of the Gevirtz School, entitled “Considering Our Legacy: Doing Work that Really Matters.” Drawing from a 40 year career in public service, this keynote will candidly begin the day with the Dean reflecting on some of the insights he has gained during this time. Milem will consider questions such as: What can we do to ensure that our work really matters, to enhance the chances that it makes a difference, to enhance the likelihood it will bring about the changes we seek?
In addition to the presentations, the conference will feature a full-day Digital Courtyard, an unmoderated Zoom room where participants can continue to network, share resources, and expand upon ideas and themes from the sessions.
The full program is currently available on line.
