Hillary Voigt has been awarded the 2021 Peggy Fredericksen Memorial Fellowship. This fellowship fund was created to honor and sustain the memory of Peggy Fredericksen, who received her B.A. in Elementary Education from UCSB in 1951 and taught elementary school in Santa Barbara and Long Beach during her career. Following her passing in 2013, this fellowship was established to support Teacher Education Program candidates who share Peggy’s passion for K-12 Education.
Hillary Voigt is an M.Ed. candidate pursuing a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English. Hillary earned her B.S. in Psychobiology from UCLA. She is a Santa Barbara native and has previously worked as a substitute teacher for the Santa Barbara Unified School District. An avid reader and writer, Hillary is also interested in pursuing a secondary credential in History/Social Science, because she believes language and history are inextricably linked. She is interested in the overlap between these two disciplines, and she is passionate about the way that the humanities provide a space for students to learn what it means to be human. She hopes to create an antiracist, inclusive classroom environment where all students are given the space to be fully themselves.
