Dr. Hsiu-Zu Ho of the Department of Education
Dean Jane Close Conoley is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Hsiu-Zu Ho as Associate Dean of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at UC Santa Barbara. Dr. Ho’s responsibilities include raising the visibility of the international work being accomplished by faculty and graduate students and overseeing the school’s compliance to the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) during UC Santa Barbara’s regular re-accreditation process. “I am very glad for Professor Ho’s partnership,” Dean Conoley says, “and know the school will benefit from her strong commitments to continuous improvement.”
“The GGSE faculty and students are highly engaged in a variety of international projects across the globe including collaborative research, prominent lectures/workshops, teacher/student exchanges, and philanthropic projects,” Dr. Ho comments. “I am excited to work with the GGSE community to enhance the visibility and understanding of our strong international efforts.”
Professor Ho’s research interests are in the areas of cross-cultural education and psychology. Her investigations explore cultural and gender variations in aspects of child development; motivation and academic achievement; and parental involvement. She has recently published work on educational systems in East Asian nations, parental involvement and student academic achievement in Asian and Asian American families. Professor Ho has served as past-president (2004-2007) of the International Studies Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association. She is also a member of the International Network of Scholars (INET) working on topics of school, family and community partnerships and the European Research Network About Parents in Education. From January through June 2103 Dr. Ho was in Taiwan as a Fulbright Senior Scholar examining father involvement in Taiwanese society.
