Dean Jane Close Conoley of UC Santa Barbara’s The Gevirtz School is one of only four US deans of education invited to Istanbul to consult with the Turkish Ministry on the establishment of a national effort to improve the preparation of teachers for Turkish children in primary and secondary education. Dr. Conoley has been invited as a special expert on the graduate education of teachers. She will be accompanied by deans from the University of Washington, University of Virginia Curry School of Education, and the New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

Conoley will spend a week in Istanbul consulting with educational leaders and she will present several scholarly papers to educational leaders throughout Turkey on topics such as Teacher Training in the 21st Century. The majority of the American deans’ time will be spent working with faculty and students at Bahçeşehir University.

Dr. Jane Close Conoley has served as Dean of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education since 2006. Conoley is well known for the depth and impact of her research in educational psychology. She is the author or co-author of over 100 books, chapters, and articles on educational and mental health issues, and has been the principal or co-principal investigator of grants with awards totaling over $20 million.
