Jay Plasman, a doctoral student at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, has been accepted to the CADRE fellows program. CADRE, or the Community for Advancing Discovery Research in Education, is a network for STEM education researchers that is funded by the National Science Foundation. Specifically, the fellows program is designed to build experience for researchers early in their careers. The competitive program helps participants with career planning, publishing, and proposal writing.
Plasman is getting his Ph.D. in the Department of Education, focusing on quantitative methods under the supervision of Dr. Michael Gottfried. He was selected as a CADRE Fellow for his work with Dr. Gottfried on a project entitled “Understanding the Role of Contextual Effects in STEM Pursuit and Persistence: A Synthesis Approach.” Currently, he is researching the role of CTE coursework in relation to high school dropout and high school completion.
