The Santa Barbara Unified School District and UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education present the premiere screening of Stand Tall: Lessons That Teach Respect and Prevent Bullying on Thursday, March 22 at 3:30 pm at La Colina Junior High School, 4025 Foothill Road. The event is free and open to the public; to RSVP or for questions call (805) 963-4338, ext. 6206. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on tools and strategies to keep schools safe and promote a positive learning community. Dr. Jane Conoley, Dean of UCSB’s Gevirtz School, will moderate the discussion, which will include author Suzanne
Peck, Superintendent of the Santa Barbara Unified School District Dave Cash, and Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley. Light refreshments will be served following the event.
Stand Tall, published by Corwin (a SAGE Company), is a video-based educational program that educates teachers and students in grades 4-6 about how to respond to disrespectful behavior. The Stand Tall training results in three core competencies: respect for individual differences, discussion to further understanding, and action that transforms behavior.

We now know that all those involved with intolerance and aggression are scarred by the experiences. These are not just personal hurts; they represent a failure of community to nurture all members with care and respect. Intolerance is not new or localized to a few arenas. It’s time, however, to speak up, work with others, and act to eradicate it. Stand Tall provides the tools to make this happen.”
Suzanne Peck, President of Peck Consultants, is the author of Stand Tall: Lessons That Teach Respect and Prevent Bullying. Peck is appearing nationally on behalf of this work. She is serving on the Dean’s Council at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. Peck also consults with executives of Fortune 500 companies on managing diversity for competitive advantage. Her work involves development of diversity and inclusion strategies, employee and customer research, facilitation of diversity councils, design of company-specific diversity, workplace respect and harassment prevention educational programs, training and executive coaching.
