Rachel Lambert and Rebeca Mireles-Rios

Rachel Lambert, PI, and Rebeca Mireles-Rios, co-PI, of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, have been awarded a highly competitive Spencer Foundation Small Grant (2021-2023) for the project “Theorizing Complex Embodiment,” which focuses on the mathematical identity development of Latinas with Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia. Their interdisciplinary collaborative includes expertise on Latina girls, mathematical learning disabilities, studies of emotion, and Disability Studies in Education. The research will be conducted at the Rio Union School District in Oxnard, CA.

The Spencer Foundation has been a leading funder of education research since 1971 and is the only national foundation focused exclusively on supporting education research.

Dr. Rachel Lambert is an Assistant Professor in Special Education and Mathematics Education in the Department of Education at the Gevirtz School. Lambert’s areas of interest are Disability Studies in Education (DSE) in relationship to mathematics education and mathematical identity development of students of color with disabilities.

Dr. Rebeca Mireles-Rios is an Assistant Professor in Human Development in the Department of Education at the Gevirtz School. Mireles-Rios’ research examines the educational expectations of Latina/o students and the connection to parent and teacher support.
