The release and signing of the Curie-osity Project’s 4-6th grade authors’ new book, STEMinists: The Lifework of 12 Women Scientists and Engineers (Xóchitl Justice Press), will be on May 7 from 6 pm to 7 pm at Chaucer's Bookstore, 3321 State Street. The book was edited by Dr. Diana Arya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara, and Jasmine McBeath, graduate student in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara.

The Curie-osity Project engaged girls in grades 4-6 in research and inquiry-based activities with women scientists and engineers within the Santa Barbra community. Twenty-five girls from the Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara After-school Program visited UC Santa Barbara labs and research sites to interview women from a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines and learn about their work. The girls were led by UCSB undergraduate students who facilitated the hands-on, minds-on activities at the university, all focused on the ultimate, collaborative goal of publishing a book about the interviewed women that have made significant contributions to their respective fields.

This event is an opportunity to meet the young authors and researchers who explored the work of women scientists and engineers at UCSB.
