UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School presents “What’s in a day? Examining the who, what, and when of student absence and achievement,” a free lecture by Kirsten Hancock on August 18 at 2 pm in Room 4205 Education Building. Hancock is a Research Fellow with the Life Course Centre at the Telethon Kids Institute in Australia. In her talk, Hancock will discuss findings from her research investigating the relationship between student absence and achievement, and how these factors depend on socioeconomic status, mobility, and age.
Hancock has a background in psychology, child development, and social science. She previously was involved with the University of Western Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and the Australian Institute of Family Studies. Her research covers children’s social, emotional, and academic development. Specifically, Hancock investigates the intersection between development and families with multiple generations of mental illness and disadvantage.
